Georgia BBQ team takes home top honors

A Georgia team took home top honors at the
2008 Ribberfest BBQ cooking championships, held over the weekend
in Mount Carmel.
Jack's Old South [pictured above] won the
Grand Prize Award in both the Memphis BBQ Network and Kansas
City BBQ Society divisions. This was the first double-sanctioned
BBQ cooking event ever held.
Around 40 teams were entered in this year's
10th annual Ribberfest. There were other competitions held as
well, including a chili cook-off, and pie-baking contest.
Evansville man arrested for stealing from
scholarship fund
A 37-year-old Evansville man has been arrested
for allegedly stealing $245,000 from a trust fund used for scholarships.
Indiana State Police report that Jared Church
turned himself in Saturday at the Pike County jail in Petersburg.
Church was in charge of distributing the
money after a committee determined who would receive the scholarships.
Indiana State Police say the thefts occurred between June of
2004 and October of 2007.
Church was released from jail after posting
bond.
Indiana bridge inspections planned for
area
More bridge inspections are scheduled for
the next few days in the Tri-State. Motorists should expect
lane reductions and delays during the day the inspection is
held.
Bridges on Indana State Road 64 in Gibson
County will get the once-over on Tuesday, September 16th. Also
that day, Interstate 64 bridges in Posey County will be inspected.
Monday, September 15th will be inspection
day in Knox County. Bridges along U-S 50 and Indiana 441 will
be examined.
Friday, September 19th, expect delays along
U-S 41 in Vanderburgh County as the bridges there are inspected.
The Twin bridges are getting a close look
currently. That work will continue through next week.
Raise coming for election judges?
Election judges in Wabash County could be getting a raise,
if the state comes through with its' promise to pay for it.
County Commissioners OK'd a state plan to raise the pay for
election judges from $80 to $111. The state has promised to
reimburse counties for the cost.
Wabash County Commissioners approved the new pay provisionally.
They indicated if the state does not come through with the reimbursement,
the pay would then revert to the current scale of $80.
